A new peer-reviewed study in Cosmetic Dermatology shows that patients looked 10 years younger after photofacials using Sciton technology – the exact same technology we use here at Aguirre Specialty Care. Can it help prevent signs of aging?
The objective of the study was to evaluate if participants who underwent regular photofacials over a period of 5 to 11 years looked noticeably younger than their actual age.
Fifteen participants aged 38 to 69 years (average age of 46 years) with Fitzpatrick skin types of I to IV received at least 1 full-face BBL photofacial treatment per year. Blind evaluators then analyzed clinical photos of the participants, comparing photos taken before beginning a regular photofacial regimen and after.
The median estimated age at the end of the study period was significantly lower than the corresponding median age of participants. Although participants had actually aged a median of 9 years during the course of the study, evaluators guessed they had only aged 2 years.
Results from the study indicate that patients who maintain a regular annual or biannual regimen of photofacial treatments can reduce and delay the signs of aging.
Researchers concluded that participant’s sun damage like age spots and freckles, broken capillaries, fine lines and wrinkles, as well as skin laxity were corrected due to BBL’s collagen rebuilding and hyperpigmentation correcting capability.
